How Laura Jayne Designs a Custom Wedding Headpiece

Have you ever wondered where a custom-designed wedding headpiece begins? The idea sounds great, but exactly how do you go about transforming a vision in your mind into a bespoke bridal accessory you love as much as your betrothed!

Here at team LJ, we design one-of-a-kind modern heirlooms all the time. Usually we’re so busy making, there’s no time for photos, so when we happened to capture some behind the scenes of a recent custom creation, we knew we needed to share.

If you’re following our “jam on the ‘gram” over @laurajaynebride you may have caught some snippets of this – and if you’re not- be sure to pop over and give us a follow. It’s a fun way to see what’s happening in our sunny atelier, what’s inspiring our latest creations, and, well, just our love of little luxuries & small joys.

…but we digress!! Mandy's sister had been given accessories selected for her online, but well, they just didn't click. Accessories are super personal. They are the key to tying together your dream dress, your unique style, and your one-of-a-kind love story captured with the vibe of your wedding.

Choosing accessories for someone else, for an event as personal as their wedding, is almost impossible. As individual as fragrance, styling your wedding gown creates your own interpretation to fit your unique style & the vibe of your wedding day – say “yes to the dress”, but “no” to a cookie-cutter bridal look!

Realizing her sister was underwhelmed with her current accessories, Mandy, a bridal consultant with one of our retail partners, Kleinfeld, brought her to one of our wedding accessory trunk shows to help her find the perfect pieces. Immediately, our bride began to shine as a world of options opened up for her that were really her. Her vision of her best self looking fantastic on her wedding day!

Tryst and Kristin gold combs laura jayne

Mandy’s sister loved the linear shape & understated vintage vibe of our Tryst comb, but she wanted more bling in keeping with the vibe of her lively evening wedding in a formal venue. She loves an effortless chic style, but still wanted to style her gown as an evening, not afternoon, wedding look. She also loved the sparkle and individual pave crystal work on the Kristin comb, but, liked a cleaner look- not so vine-like.

We decided to incorporate the crystal blossoms from our Kristin comb to give our bride the best of both worlds. The perfect pop of sparkle against an understated, chic comb to be placed in low side chignon.

Subtle and perfectly imperfect, the Kristin comb’s crystal blossoms are created with a mix of clear, vintage, and smoked Swarovski crystal stones hand set into little filigrees. The different finishes on the stones make them work perfectly with the brushed gold leaves of the Tryst comb, adding just enough sparkle factor with subtle sophistication.

We loved sharing the journey from Miss to Mrs. with Mandy’s sister, and helping her write her #accessorylovestory.
